Grand Canyon to Page Az (PGA)

Route: Follow along as we travel from F70 to Page Arizona over the Grand Canyon. Our route from F70 is direct to Kingman airport (IGA) and more or less follow highway 40 to Valle airport (40G) enroute to Page airport , passing through “Zuni” corridor. The route to the Grand Canyon is rugged and offers little for emergency options, so staying close to the only highway was my preference.

Once we got near the Grand Canyon we opted to fly over “Zuni” pass. There are special VFR rules to be followed when traversing the canyon. Each direction has alititude assignments to adhere to.

Enroute: What a great flight it was!! We made this flight in February of 2018. It was unseasonabl warm for the region resulting in little precipitation. We were able to take advantage of this weather and see the grand canyon on a abnormally clear day without any snow fall.

Here we go!! Off to Page Az via the Grand Canyon
Lean of peak slowed us down about 4 knots. We had a 15 knot head wind
Getting closer to Zuni pass over the grand canyon.

Zuni corridor is regarded as the most scenic corridor. Also, it looked to give us the most time over the Grand Canyon. Could be a good or bad thing……

Time in Flight: About 2hrs and 15 min.

Airport Environment: I will refer you to foreflight for airport details.

TIP: Page is an uncontrolled airport with LOTS AND LOTS, did I say LOTS, of tour aircrafts landing and departing. We went on the off season but at any given moment there are about 20 Cessna 207’s ready to launch a tour flight. Be cautious during the summer time!!!

FBO: Lake powel jet center is about $1.00 more per gallon for avgas and apparently charges a lot for a tie down. We parked at American aviation and found the service to be great.  And of course you can find all the amenities at this FBO, including rental cars and sightseeing tours.

Near by Accommodations: It’s lake Powel!! You can find anything you need here! We found a great deal on a boat rental for about $150 a day and took full advantage of it!

During this time of the season (winter) the human impact is low, resulting in glassy water and undisterbed peace; something I’m sure is rare to see out here.

Places Stayed: We chose to stay at the Lake Powel Resort which we found to be GREAT. Give them a look.

Leaving Page, we chose to depart and fly over Lake Powel at about 2000 feet AGl. This rewarded us with some amazing photos shown below.
